Introduction - Initial Ideas

As the recession continues and global warming is a huge threat, we are taking the opportunity to use this as our initial idea, or starting point. Using the theme of “The Earth” and “Recycling”, our aim is to create a fun and new approach to dealing with our fears about the future of our world. Bringing everyone in the community together to enjoy nature and let them discover what the world has to offer.

Structure and Colours

Weaved Willow Structure
In keeping with our inspiration from nature I have researched the possibility of using willow as part of our structure. It could possibly be combined with cardboard. It could form the main "frame" of the structure. One thing has to be taken into consideration though. It is living willow so will have to be planted in big pots. We could use terracotta ones as we already had the idea of using these in the shop to sell products in. As the pop up shop is temporary I don't see there being a problem with the willow being inside for short periods as long as it is watered everyday. It is pliable and  easy to work with. It can become quite a strong structure when it is weaved in and out of itself. It also looks very impressive when finished. As I mentioned before it could become the outer walls of the shop if we decided to have an enclosed space.

This tree is made up of entirely cardboard  and then covered in newspaper
Another possibility for the structure would be to use the cardboard which we have access to. We could make forms of trees which slot together and also in keeping with the Native American theme Totem Poles. These could be used to show the products which would be for sale. With maybe Dream catchers hanging from the tree branches and jewellery could be placed in the mouths of the totem poles. I think this would not work as an enclosed space so would be more open to the public passing by.
Another tree made out of cardboard but with more colour. This looks very effective. I like the use of the added birds and apples. It gives it more life

Colours

I really like the earthy tones which have been posted earlier on in the blog. I think they are really appropriate with our theme of nature. I also like the reds which Native Americans and other tribes use which they get from mixing crushed iron oxide with water. This never creates the exact same shade of red.The use of dyes which have come from nature would be I think a very important theme for our eco friendly shop

These colours are all made using dyes which have come from nature.
This red was made using madder
I like these paints which have been inspired by colours used by Native Americans
All kinds of natural resources can be used to produce dyes.

Here are a list of just a few

Beetroot
Flowers
Tree Bark
Fruit
Mud
Iron Oxide
Paprika
Insects and Beetles
Coffee Grinds
Sea Snails
Walnuts
Blood
Crushed Bone
